Take an exceptional tour of a tragic story of two divided nations originally from one and only ethnic group. Through this half-day DMZ tour, travelers can see the border of North and South Korea, also learn the Korean war history with their own tour guide. After the morning DMZ tour, we will go back to Seoul and explore the largest palace or war memorial of Korea, which exhibits and preserves materials related to the Korean War and serves as a national moral educational venue.

Description

About a 1-hour drive from Seoul, we will arrive at Imjingak Park. The Imjingak park, located 50km northwest of Seoul, was built for 5 million people who had lost their homes. Major facilities include the North Hall, where you can get a view of the North Korean lifestyle.

Imjingak Park was built in 1972 with the hope that someday unification would be possible. Through this park, visitors can see over 400 photos and documents showing the stark reality of North Korea. The next place is Odusan Unification Observatory, which observatory located in the northernmost ceasefire line of the western front where the Hangang River and Imjingang River meet.

After visiting these places, we will go back to Seoul in the afternoon and visit the largest palace. Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is also commonly referred to as the “Northern Palace” because its location is the furthest north when compared to the neighboring palaces of Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and Gyeongheegung (Western Palace). Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful and remains the largest of all five palaces.

Another option is the War Memorial of Korea. 13,000 items are on display in its six halls under different themes: Memorial Hall, War History, Korean War, Expeditionary Forces Room, ROK Armed Forces Room, and Large Equipment Room, plus the outside exhibition area. You will be able to see the uniforms of the alleys of the Korean War,  various weapons and equipment used during the wars, as well as paintings of battlefields and sculptures of notable warriors and An Jung-geun, who assassinated a former Resident-General in Manchuria in 1909. About 100 large weapons are on display in the outside exhibition area on the lawns around the building.

We had a long layover in Seoul and the tour to the DMZ was a good way to spend the day there. Our guide, Andrew, was knowledgeable and flexible. The tour within DMZ sites is kind of rushed but that is not the tour company’s fault; it is the way the DMZ structures it for any tourist. And we ended up not having much time to spend at the War Memorial of Korea. Andrew did a great job in coordinating lunch for us in our restricted time period, and he picked a great place of traditional Korean barbecue; very delicious! My only suggestion to One Day Korea is to provide at least water to their guests during the tour. We paid a good amount of money and not even water was offered (lunch was on our own). The entrance fee to the DMZ is not expensive and the War Memorial of Korea is free of charge, so offering water is the least the company could do to better justify the high price they charge. Overall, it was a very good tour.

This is a great private tour company. Everything was arranged via emails and with quick response time during normal Korean business hours. Yan Wong, Tour Operator, answered a ton of my questions and concerns and made me feel very at peace that our tour will work out very smoothly. My wife and I were traveling with 6 year old twins girls and our primary concerns were the kids safety and having a fun. Our full day tour began in the morning at our hotel near ICN airport and dropped off at the airport in the evening. We were blessed to be paired with with Gwan our driver and Kim our guide. Both spoke perfect English and very good with kids. We didn’t expect to have a built in babysitter for our tour! Gwan entertained our kids while Kim shared with my wife and I about DMZ & Seoul. My kids loved playing with Gwan and said it was their highlight over the tour itself LOL! Us as parents loved how caring they were with our kids and allowed us time to listen to Korea’s history instead of always dealing with the little ones. One very nice surprise was the pictures Gwan took for us and then emailed them. I’m glad our guides were flexible especially when dealing with kids. We didn’t follow exactly the itinerary which was good because we were able to spend more time where it was more kid friendly versus trying to rush to cover everything that the kids won’t like. DMZ was a fun family tour because my kids got to ride on the monorail, go into tunnels (like caves), and looked through telescope to see N. Korea. Seoul tour was fun eating experience at Tongin Market, sightsee Chandeokgung Palace, & see the unique architecture design of DDP. My family thanks the crew of One Day Korea Yan, Gwan, and Kim for awesome service and understanding of dealing with kids. We highly recommend using One Day Korea for any of your tours in Korea.

We were picked up from the cruise terminal in Incheon by Benni in a very clean and modern vehicle. He drove us to the DMZ and joined us on the bus tour providing lots of local knowledge during the day. His English was excellent. After this we had a lovely Korean lunch and visited the markets. I was a little worried about booking online but the tour was well above my expectations. Thanks Benni and One Day Korea for making our day in South Korea a memorable one.

    In one word: WOW!!!
As I am really interested in the relation between North and South Korea, this was a must-go place for me. But I wanted to avoid the busy tourist buses, so we booked a private tour, WHICH I REALLY RECOMMEND. Our tour guide was great and could definitely satisfy my desire to know as much as possible. He excellently answered all of my questions. The additional visits to Gyeongbokgung and the war memorial and really inspiring and deepened my knowledge about the country’s history. All in all, I highly recommend booking a private tour to DMZ to everyone who comes to Korea! You might spend a bit more but it is worth every dollar. Thanks one day korea, especially to my tour guide!

What a great two days of private touring with Terry from One Day Korea. Terry was an awesome guide, quickly became part of my family for our two-day tour of Seoul. The palace, the DMZ, Itaewon, Gangham. Great food, historic sites, shopping, and partying, an unforgettable experience with the best guide! We already miss Terry and hope to see him again very soon.
