Overview
With its pure ocean scenery and numerous small islands, the city of Yeosu is a small gem in the South of Korea. It became a popular tourist destination among Koreans since they hosted the World Expo in 2012, which promoted the importance of marine resources and the protection of the ocean.
Description
Drive around 4-5 hours from Seoul. First, we will take the Yeosu Maritime Cable Car. Connecting the mainland of Yeosu to one of its numerous islands, the Yeosu maritime cable car is a recent attraction and the first of its kind in South Korea! It floats over Dadohae Marine National Park, one of Korea’s most superb natural landscapes made up of many small islets. The floor of the crystal cable cars is made of glass, enabling you to enjoy the view of the turquoise water and wooded islands of one of the most beautiful seaside scenery in the country, with the feeling of floating in mid-air between the sea and sky. Quite a thrilling experience! The cable car will travel for 1.5km over the ocean, and you will find observatory points at the end. While riding the maritime cable car, you will pass by the Dolsandaegyo bridge, which connects the mainland to Dolsan Island and its raw fish town. 450 meters long, it is the largest cable-stayed bridge in Korea and has brought commerce and tourism to the island since its construction in 1984. It is a popular tourist spot as it is beautifully illuminated at night by changing yellow, purple, or red lights, creating a beautiful and romantic scenery with the surrounding sea and islands.
Odongdo Island is a charming island connected to the Yeosu mainland by a 768m-long breakwater. It is one of the most beautiful islands in Hallyeo Marine National Park. It got its name from its particular shape, as it looks like the leaf of Odong trees, which are scattered all over it. The island is also particularly famous for its beautiful camellia trees, which come into full bloom in March and create a magnificent scenery perfect for a stroll in the premises of Spring. The island’s central square features a musical fountain as well as a trail leading up to the top of the island. Following it you will pass through a green bamboo road, magnolia and camellia trees, and then find the white lighthouse overlooking the island’s strangely shaped cliffs.
