Description

Meet our guide at the Gyeongbokgung Palace station Exit 2. We walk into the local market. Tongin Market was built in 1941 and opened its unique food cafe in 2012. It had been set up for the Japanese residents during the colonization but was used back by Koreans after the war. It features many grocery stores and food stands. Unlike other traditional markets, it offers a unique experience for visitors to exchange money for ancient yeopjeon (brass coins), which can be used to fill the lunch tray with a variety of freshly prepared food found throughout the market. Enjoy a fantastic array of snacks and drinks in the friendly market atmosphere. Also, it is a famous shooting location of Infinite Challenge & Super Junior M’s Guest House. Here, they use yeopjeon coin, the currency of the Goryeo and the Joseon dynasty. Despite that we are not using yeopjeon now, by using ‘Tongin market yeopjeon‘ you can taste 3-5 kinds of Korean food.
