Minimum travelers: 1 Duration: 6 to 7 hours (approx.)
Take an exceptional tour of the tragic story of two divided nations originally from one ethnic group. The DMZ is a demilitarized zone formed after the Korean War and established between South and North Korea. It is 2km wide in the North and 2km wide in the South from the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) crossing the Korean Peninsula. Through a tour of the DMZ, travelers can see that the DMZ area’s ecosystem has been conserved very well, as it has long been deserted. They can also visit the 3rd underground tunnel that North Korea has been digging for a surprise attack on South Korea.
Your original passport is checked at the military control point on the day of the tour. A foreigner registration card is not accepted, and neither is a photocopy or a photo on your phone. Without it you will be turned away at the checkpoint.
If your preferred date falls on one of these, tell us, and we will suggest the closest available day.
The access ramp is 358 meters long with an 11-degree incline, and the walk down and back takes 30 to 40 minutes. A helmet is required, and taller visitors need to bend in places. A monorail is sometimes available, but we cannot guarantee it — it is occasionally out of service or fully booked. Visitors with respiratory problems or claustrophobia should not go down, and can wait at the exhibition hall instead.
Sneakers are best. There is more walking than most visitors expect.
Without a seat.
Pickup is from your hotel in Seoul, usually between 07:20 and 07:40 depending on where you are staying. The drive north takes about an hour.
At the DMZ, you visit three places — the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, the Dora Observatory, and Reunification Village (Tongil-chon). The order changes depending on military schedules and how busy the sites are on the day, and your guide will decide the best sequence once we arrive.
You are back at your hotel in Seoul by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free.
Because the DMZ is an active military zone, schedules can shift without notice. The itinerary may be adjusted depending on military schedules, weather, and traffic.
Your pickup and drop-off do not have to be the same place. We regularly run this tour for guests who need to be somewhere else afterward.
Flying out the same day — We collect you from your hotel and drop you at Incheon Airport after the tour, with time to check in. Tell us your flight number when you book and we will build the timing around it.
On a layover — We have run this tour for guests with a 12-hour layover at Incheon Airport, meeting them on arrival and returning them in time for their connecting flight. The DMZ is roughly 1.5 hours from the airport in each direction, and entry times are fixed, so send us your flight details, and we will tell you honestly whether it works.
Cruise passengers — We pick you up at the Incheon cruise terminal and return you to the ship on time. Missing a departure is not an option, and we plan accordingly.
These are two different places, and people often confuse them.
The JSA (Joint Security Area) at Panmunjom is the blue-hut border crossing you see in photographs. It requires government clearance, must be reserved several days in advance, and is frequently suspended without notice.
Our DMZ tour visits the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, Dora Observatory, and Reunification Village. It can usually be arranged at short notice, and many of our guests book with us after discovering the JSA is fully reserved or closed for their dates.
If you are deciding between the two and your dates are tight, the DMZ tour is the reliable option.
To enter the DMZ, you board a shuttle bus managed by the army agency. After your IDs are checked, the bus drives through the South DMZ line. Surrounded by well-preserved natural landscape, you pass military camps, a quiet town, and its farming fields and greenhouses. Signboards warning of mines and no-fly zones sit beside the road. The 3rd Infiltration Tunnel was dug by North Korea to move troops at a rate of 30,000 soldiers per hour — imagine them emerging underground into a city of 10 million. In this 2-meter-wide, 2-meter-tall passage, you wear a helmet and bend in places to reach the point 170 meters from the MDL, the border between North and South Korea. An explanatory video and exhibition cover the Korean War and the four infiltration tunnels found so far. Afterward, you can take photos at the DMZ signboard, and if you are lucky, with some soldiers.
At the Dora Observatory, you look across at Gaesong, a North Korean city just 2km away. You can hear propaganda broadcasts and see the national flag, and Kim Il-sung’s statue raised high on the opposite hillside. Your guide explains how the observatory sits on a hill taken back from North Korean forces, at the cost of hundreds of South Korean and US Marine lives.
Our last stop is Tongil-chon, where you can pick up souvenirs and local products — soybean ice cream and ginseng grown organically in the village. Looking at the names of about 580,000 deceased and missing soldiers and civilians, you can close the tour by reconsidering what peace and freedom cost here.
A private DMZ tour runs with your party only. We pick you up at your hotel rather than a fixed meeting point; the pace is yours, and your English-speaking guide answers your questions directly instead of addressing a bus of forty people.
This matters most if you are traveling with children, with older parents, or with anyone who cannot keep a group pace. We have guided families with parents in their eighties and nineties — not every stop at the DMZ is step-free, but a private guide can plan the day around what works for your group instead of leaving people behind.
Group tours are cheaper per person if you are traveling alone or as a couple. From four travelers up, our per-person price comes close to group tour rates while the experience stays private.

Our guide Theo did a wonderful job. He made contact the day before to ensure our meet up time and he arrived early the day of the tour. During the day of the tour he was friendly and engaging. The tour to the DMZ was amazing and we went on to see more sights afterwards back in Seoul. All in all a great day.

Billy was a great driver and tour guide. He took very good care of us. He told us a lot of historical facts about the war and forming of the DMZ. He didn’t rush us and gave us plenty of time to appreciate all information and sites.

We visited a number of DMZ sights including the Odusan Unification Tower and sights at Imjingak like the steam engine, Skywalk, Bridge of Freedom and Beat 131 (Underground bunker). We then spent time at the War Memorial of Korea and finished up at the Seoul Tower. The tour gave us new insights on the devastation of this war and then the speed in which South Korea rebuilt is truly remarkable.
Our tour guide and driver, Brian was excellent. He was knowledgeable and interesting. We would highly recommend this tour company and guide.

Half day tour with Justin Kim. One day Korea were very good and prompt with e-mails, and flexible about departure time (in advance) which was a big help. We visited the Imjin-gak Park, Dora observatory, 3rd Infiltration tunnel, Dorasan Train Station and Reunification village. The tour was very informative with a lot of insight into the recent history, and Justin was knowledgeable and made the tour interesting.

Jay was an outstanding guide. We did Seoul,DMZ and other areas. Extremely knowledgeable, accommodating, personable and efficient. We wanted to bring something special back from our visit. He went out of his way to advise as well as negotiate for a unique Korean Dance mask. He would bring insights and a historical perspective to every site. There were small things as well e.g. Korean street candy maker. Finally, he was just a nice person. Would highly recommend One Day Korea and Jay.

We took 3 tours with One Day Korea during our trip to South Korea. We traveled with our our elderly parents are 85 and 90 (need wheelchair for long distance walking) during our recent travel to Seoul. Although not every activity/stop was wheelchair accessible, our tour guides helped us navigate the day so that we got the best out of it for all of us! Our first tour was to DMZ with Justin. He was so outstanding that when we got home, we immediately booked another tour for the following day. Our next tour was to Suwon Hwaseoung Fortress and Korea Folk Village with Eric. Eric not only was knowledgeable about the history but also helped us navigate the day so that we got the most out of our tour without any wasted time. The next day, we had Eric as our tour guide. Again, another fanastic guide! He was knowledgeable about not only Our third tour was with Justin again for Seoul City Full Day Private Tour. Justin was so caring in taking extra care of our father and helping us navigate his wheelchair — he made our tour so enjoyable! He also gave us extra stop at Gwangjang Market! He told us where to stand to get the best views for the changing of the guards at the Palace and showed us streets in Bukchon village which we never would have found without him! Food also was delicious! AMAZING — HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Overall our tour and guide were excellent. Our guide Jay was on time for our cruise port pick up and drove us to the DMZ. Along the way he provided details of the sights we were passing and what we could expect once at the DMZ. Once at the DMZ he provided plenty of details and history of the area and conflict itself. He kept us on time and allowed us to explore at our leisure. I would definitely recommend One Day Korea tours.
Jay is just a young guy starting out but you could tell he had studied and takes the job serious. Also his English was fine too. As a guide & driver, he also did a fine job driving safely and again keeping us on time. Good luck Jay, thank you from Canada!

My husband and I went for the half day DMZ tour and our guide was Smith. He arrived early to pick us up and was very nice. He was a pretty funny guy who let us know he learned English to watch modern family. Talking with him on the way to the DMZ was a pleasure and then the tour was very enlightening, along with commentary from Smith. It really shows you a different side of life and the way other cultures and people look at situations. Being from the US, I’ve never had to deal with this type of daily threat and I think it was a good experience to see it. I would highly recommend!

We had Justin as a tour guide for the DMZ in September 2017. Justin was very good, he was enthusiastic and caring, and he clearly very much enjoys his job as a tour guide. His enthusiasm was infectious. His English is pretty good, though he could work to improve this a little bit. Overall it was a great experience.

The tour was extremely informative. This is the best way to get around DMZ area because we didn’t realize the JSA tour require reservation at least 4 days before. Luckily Onedaykorea arranged this tour at the last minute. Kim, our tour guide was so knowledgeable and he speaks fluent in English! We learned so much about the history of Korea. We really look forward to visit Korea again and definitely we will join onedaykorea in my next trip!

My friends and I had a 12 hour layover at Incheon Airport. One Day Korea met us at the airport and took us for the three hour tour of the De-Militarized Zone, the border between North and South Korea. It was fascinating to see this famous relic of the Cold War and our guide made sure we had a complete understanding of the history and importance of this place.

We had a great time during the half day DMZ private tour, because our guides were great and their arrangement was perfect! We requested a Japanese speaking guide, and his Japanese was perfect. Also, for our surprise, an English speaking driver (his English was perfect, too) accompanied with us, too. We enjoyed talking with two highly talented gentlemen. They are so warmhearted for us and for kids like friends. Thank you One Day Korea. Absolutely highly recommended!!

While researching my trip to korea for the first time One Day Korea was great at answering all my questions. I scheduled two tours – DMZ & Damyang Bamboo Forest. Each tour was a great new experience, that we will never forget. We learned a lot about the Korean culture through each activity and from our tour guide Terry who was friendly and very knowledgeable. We absolutely recommend this company. A+

We did the Seroksan and DMZ tour with One Day Korea. Did lots of research on tour companies in Seoul and didn’t regret my decision at all. Pick up from your hotel, private tours catered to you, transport was excellent (loved the DVD player) and the communication in arranging the tours was brilliant, (thanks Terry) Best thing about the whole thing was Duke. It was like hanging out in these amazing places with a new friend rather than a tour guide. He even arranged a last minute detour after the DMZ to fill some time before we flew back rather than let us stay at the airport for 5 hours! They don’t get many English tourists so a some of our conversation was a bit lost in translation but Duke was very patient and keen to muddle through. Also loved the pictures he sent through afterwards.
