Description

On the first day, you will depart from your hotel in Seoul, and then visit a town surrounded by nature, fields, and mountains and filled with traces of the Confucianist culture, in Gyeongsang-do Province: Andong Hahoe Village, which is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage. In the Hahoe Mask Dance Performance, characters with humorous masks on such as a nobleman, a Buddhist monk, a bride, farmers, a cow slaughterer, and a sarcastic lad make the show. Through farce or satirical drama, town people ridicule and criticize the hypocrisy of the aristocratic class and Buddhism. The show is also made to wish for the town’s good luck, rich harvest and people’s welfare. Walking through the small alleys enclosed with short walls and various types of traditional houses, you will feel peace and quietness in this 600-year-old town. After Andong tour, you will stay one night in Gyeongju.

On day 2, you will discover the capital of the Silla Kingdom – Gyeongju:, the longest surviving kingdom in the history of the peninsula, for almost 1000 years. As Buddhism played a crucial role in strengthening royal authority and unifying the people, it naturally made Gyeongju the home of the greatest Buddhist art treasures. The city still shines today, most well known as the “Museum Without Walls”, thanks to its limitless amount of beautiful historical and cultural heritage that will transport you back more than a thousand years into the past. The whole city is a UNESCO cultural heritage,  so you will have the best opportunity to feel relaxed and refreshed in this calming, peaceful old-fashioned city embraced by high royal tombs and historical relics. At the end of this day, you will check-in at a hotel in Busan.

On day 3, it is your chance to relax in Busan, which is the second-largest city and the largest seaport in Korea. You can discover and enjoy this city’s dynamics and cultural variety, get some good deals and taste some fresh food at the city’s most popular markets. You will between visiting either Beomeosa temple or Haedong Yonggungsa temple, two beautiful and singular temples. Beomeosa means temple of the Nirvana fish, it was built on the slopes of Geumjeong mountain. Haedong Yonggunsa temple means Dragon palace temple, it is one of the most unique temples in Korea and it is near the coastlines.

On day 4, you will discover the Haeinsa temple and Jeonju Hanok Village. The Haeinsa temple which has been appointed as a universal cultural heritage in 1995 for its cultural importance and historical remains. This temple is located on Gaya mountain, and houses the most complete collection of Buddhist texts, engraved on 80,000 woodblocks between 1237 and 1248. Before checking-in your hotel in Jeonju, we will explore the Jeonju Hanok Village. There are over 800 Korean traditional Houses located in a district of narrow alleys. While the rest of the city has been industrialized, the Hanok Village retains its historical charms and traditions. It is especially well-known for its beautiful roofs, with curved shapes. As it is the biggest intact Hanok Village of the country, you will feel like you were taken back in time while walking through the complex of alleys. You can also try Jeonju food and experience Hanbok wearing!

For the last day of this private trip, we will explore a UNESCO cultural heritage called Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. This castle was established in 1796 as a temporary palace for Jeong-jo, the 22nd King of the Joseon dynasty. The newly modernized city at that time was circled by the fortress which had the double purpose of both protection from enemies and a center of commerce. This comparatively recent castle and the fortress were made with techniques harmonizing both Western and Oriental architectural skills, such as, for example, using cranes and bricks (instead of stone and earth). After this fun-packed and historical five-day trip, you will get back to Seoul, learn how to make Kimchi and then we will end up the tour at your hotel in Seoul, and maybe continue with your own itinerary?
