Description

Noryangjin Fish Market opened in 1927 next to Seoul Station. This is one of Korea’s largest seafood markets. It was moved to the newly constructed building since 1971 at Noryangjin and Suhyup took over the market to promote fishery industry, as well as to increase fisher’s income in 2002. The whole building size 118,346㎡ from B2-to 6F, Noryangjin Fish Market handles about 50% of metropolitan volumes and 250 to 300 tons of marine products are traded 24/7.

We will meet at the subway station and then head to the Noryangjin Fish Market, after that you can choose your favorite seafood or raw fish and then take it to the restaurant. Although restaurants may change (depending on availability and guest allergies and dietary restrictions), the typical fish market tour starts with a walk around Noryangjin area and then pick out fresh seafood. Fresh seafood usually eats in Korean fish market are Korean style sashimi – Rockfish, live octopus, sea squirt, steamed and marinated fish, fish stew, and rice, etc. We can enjoy all the dishes with beer or soju. (Drinks own expense)

Along the road of Noryangjin station exit-3 is a line of private educational institutes, aka hakwons. It is the most hakwon-populated area in Korea. The reason for the abundance of hakwons is linked directly to the past Korean government’s population control. In the late 1970s, The government moved all the hakwons to the outside the area surrounded by four gates of Seoul in an attempt to control the overpopulation of Gangbuk area. Most of them moved into the Noryangjin area, resulting in a mass increase in student population, which in turn increased the number of hakwons. Alongside the Hakwon street are many street food vendors, naming the street ‘Noryangjin cupbab street’. Cupbab street formed for its convenience and accessibility, which attracted the massive student population in the area. The foods on the street are much cheaper than the other areas of Seoul. You can buy 3-4 kinds of foods with only 10,000won(about 10usd), so this area is also popular for many food tourists.
