Overview
Danyang has been famous for its beautiful natural scenery for a long time and has been visited by famous poets and artists. Nowadays, it is a hotspot for paragliding, with a special site situated at the top of a 664-meter-high mountain. You can be a free flyer in the air while looking down at mountains and a river (the South Han River). Before you leave the ground, you will have to keep running and follow the expert pilot’s directions. While gliding up and down, flying in the air, you will make memories of every exciting moment with an action camera.
Description
Danyang is THE spot if you want to go on an exciting leisure sports challenge. It offers two runways for paragliding: one on Mt. Yangbangsan and the other on Mt. Dusan. The first site is located close to downtown Danyang and offers a runway as well as a practice area where novices are given standard training before flying.
This well-designed facility is the site of national and international paragliding competitions. Gliders take off from the peak of Mt. Yangbangsan, 650 meters above sea level, towards the Namhangang River, flowing through the high mountains. The thrill and the sense of freedom are indescribable.
After feeling like a bird and enjoying the beautiful view from the sky, you can go and eat delicious food called Garlic Hanjeongsik (Table d’hôte or Korean Set Menu). Garlic is an organic energizer, and its best quality is that it is produced in this area. Otherwise, you can drop by Googyeong Traditional Market, where garlic dumplings, garlic dakgangeong (chicken seasoned with sweet and sour sauce), and other traditional snacks and dishes are eaten.
With the sensation of flying still fresh in mind, you will go to Jan-gyo, a long and narrow skywalk going around the hillside along the Han River. You will also visit Dodamsambong Three Peaks, the best landmark among the Danyang 8 scenic views. The Three Peaks are small rocks on the Han River with mountains and hills as the background. You can listen to the legend involving the peaks and the story of a scholar called Jeong Dojeon, the Confucianist master of the first King of the Joseon Dynasty.
Optional tour (2 options) – While traveling the sun-lit Danyang County on a hot day, it can be a good idea to freshen up by exploring Gosu Cave, the largest limestone cave in Asia. Walking up and down the stairs, you will be amazed by the mysterious sights of stone pillars, stalagmites, and stalactites dangling down from the cave ceiling. You will marvel at the details and grandeur of this underground paradise that Nature has created.
Guin-sa Buddhist Temple – Located in a deep valley, this beautiful, grandiose, and brilliant headquarters temple of Cheontajong (Buddhist division compound out of Zen and non-Zen sect) is worth visiting. Even though you might sweat a little climbing up to the high site, it is definitely worth it to enjoy the beauty and solemnity of this silent temple.

We had an amazing time paragliding over the Danyang area. The pilots were great about making sure we were harnessed safely and comfortable. Renting their go-pro is the way to go. The footage was spectacular!
After lunch, we took a hike up to the Guinsa Temple. It also provided incredible sights!
Justin, our tour guide and driver, took fantastic pictures of our family throughout the tour. We appreciated his knowledge of the many sites that we visited.
He was extremely patient with our need for bathroom stops.
I recommend this tour as being one of the best highlights of our trip.

One day Korea is fabulous! They are prompt in replying and have really unique one day tours that are easy! The hardest thing about any trip is traveling and tickets and timeline, but all this is taken care of! Just pick the activity and they take care of all the rest!

Due to the weather, One Day Korea informed us in advance that the date which we were supposed to go on the tour, was not feasible for paragliding. It was much appreciated that they were willing to accommodate and change the tour date for us.

This activity was fantastic. We went Paragliding and visited the Gosu caves through One Day Korea with our guide Justin. The whole thing went really well- they have a great and easy to use website. They were kind enough to pick us up at our apartment in Gangnam, Seoul and he arrived perfectly on time. The car was very comfortable and clean- we felt like VIPs in the car as it was quite fancy. A two hour drive with a stopover at a service station got us to Danyang. Paragliding was fantastic- great people doing this and exciting (if not a bit hair-raising) drive to the top and then simply jump off and glide to the bottom. Definitely hire a go-pro- it’s worth it. Then after this, Justin was very relaxed with out time- offering to take us to a market and also the caves. DEFINITELY do the caves- they are amazing!!! So beautiful!

We were supposed to go on a Tuesday but we caught food poison the night before so we couldn’t make it. But we were allowed to change the date and ended up only two of us instead of four. Thanks for being flexible with us with so many last min changes. Our tour guide was Benny and he’s great. He’s friendly, helpful and can speak good English! We booked the Paragliding tour at Danyang after watching the variety show 1박 2일 (2 Days & 1 Night). Our tour guide, Benny was very punctual for the pick up at our hotel on the day of our tour. Throughout the journey to our location, Benny shared with us lots of stuff about Korea and also sharing his best collection of music! This made the 2 hours journey much more interesting. The main highlight of the tour was of course the Paragliding. Upon reaching, Benny helped to arrange everything for us with the paragliding company and shortly after, we were gearing up and on our way to start the activity. Although we had 1 “Merlion” (internal joke) after the paragliding, Benny showed lots of patience and cared for his well-being. Lunch was at a very nice recommended place by Benny. Enjoyed the dumplings alot! Nonetheless, enjoyed our trip and thanks Benny for making it all the more worthwhile!

My friend and I went on a one day paragliding tour at Danyang. The company was very patient with our inquiries. The trip was very long as Danyang is far from Seoul (total of 6 hours back and forth) and the paragliding activity itself was very short (5 minutes). Still, we enjoyed it very much and it was worth it!

Last month, I went to Danyang with my high school mates. It was awesome, especially PARAGLIDING!!! We went up the mountain, and flew down like a bird!!! They say we were in the air for more than 10 minutes, but it was quite long enough. I love this place, surrounded by mountain ranges and river, providing fantastic views everywhere I saw. The restaurant was quite nice too, with so many dishes. After lunch, we went to some more local places. I don’t remember the names, but the peaks on the river and the golden temple were terrific! All the places we visited that day were really local. During the journey, we were the only guys speaking in English and Mandarin, and we heared no languages other than Korean. I felt like I explored the HIDDEN GEM of Korea!!
